Also a big ‘THANK YOU’ to all the reps who have been supporting the Students’ Union by representing students opinions across the University. Part of my role in the Students’ Union is to look at support and development of student representation, particularly linked to the StARs scheme. I work alongside Noreen and Mohammad to create resources and support for StARs, so that you can fulfil their role and take up opportunities where possible. Over the past five years I have been working in the Students’ Union in many roles, from being a course rep (the days before StARs) to an elected officer and later a staff member. I also co-ordinate our Student Training Programme, where students like yourselves train to become trainers. I am mostly based at City campus, but I do work across both. Feel free to pop by to see me for a chat and cup of tea. s.to@londonmet.ac.uk P A G E 2 N o r e e n F a t ima V i c e P r e s i d e n t (Ci t y c a m p u s ) We are here to help I S S U E 1 S i m o n T o P r o j e c t C o - o r d i n a t o r ISSUE 1 PAGE 3 Student Training Programme Session Date Time Room Campus Time Management Thu 6 April 2006 5pm to 7pm GS1-18 Goulston Street City campus Meeting Skills Friday 7 April 2006 5:30pm to 7:30pm TM1-44 Tower Building North Campus Clubs and Societies: your purpose and members Monday 24 April 2006 2pm to 4pm TM2-03 Tower Building North campus Meeting Skills Monday 24 April 2006 5pm to 7pm TMG-47 Tower Building North campus Being a Representative Wednesday 26 April 2006 5pm to 7pm GS1-19 Goulston Street City campus Clubs and Societies: Web Development Thursday 27 April 2006 5pm to 7pm GSB-14 (IT lab) Goulston Street City campus Time Management Friday 28 April 2006 5:30pm to 7:30pm TMG-47 Tower Building North campus Communication Skills Wednesday 3 May 2006 5pm To 7pm GSB-15 (IT lab) Goulston Street City campus Lobbying and Advanced Skills Thursday 4 May 2006 5pm to 7pm GS1-18 Goulston Street City campus Being a Representative Friday 5 May 2006 5:30pm To 7:30pm TMG-47 Tower Building North campus To sign up for a session email training.su@londonmet.ac.uk ISSUE 1 PAGE 4 Undergraduate Scheme Certificate Level Elective Studies Choose your electives wisely! The University is offering you the chance to specialise in key subject areas that will be exciting to study and will enhance your employability. It involves passing two modules, one at I level, another at H level. In the two weeks of 27 March and 3 April you will be able to choose your Intermediate Level modules. Most students can choose one or more designate/electives (shown by the letters ‘e’ or ‘d/e’ in your course structure). The Elective Studies scheme allows you to choose two related modules that are coherent and will add value to your final degree. The mention of ‘Elective Studies in ’ will appear on your final degree transcript and demonstrate your specialism to future employers. Work Placements & Employability The three subjects Citizenship, Enterprise and Ethics have been chosen to complement perfectly any work placement you undertake at Intermediate Level. In Citizenship and in Enterprise at H level, the module assessment will include reflection upon your experience on your work placement. You can get assistance in obtaining a work placement from the Employability Unit. See www.londonmet.ac.uk/employability/ Elective Studies in Citizenship If you are involved in voluntary work (eg peer mentoring or in your local community) or if you are interested in corporate social responsibility, these modules could be for you. You should select the following I Level module: SC2C67C Rights, Social Justice and Diversity, and for H level next year: SC3C05C Voluntary Action - Learning in Communities. Elective Studies in Enterprise If you have an interest in innovation or developing an idea into a business or organisational opportunity, these modules could be for you. You should select the I Level module: PE2N10N Innovation in Enterprise, and for H level next year: PE3N10N Managing Enterprise Projects. Elective Studies in Ethics If you are interested in the moral and ethical dilemmas confronting society, business and individuals, choose these modules. You should select the I Level module: EC2T23N Applied Ethics, and for H level next year: EC3T29N Professional Ethics. How to register your choice The Elective Studies subjects will be explained in more detail at your department’s option choice fair. During module registration you will be able to select the Intermediate level module using eVision. You can also see your PAA in your undergraduate centre for further advice and information.
