Hello everyone!
I hope that you're having a good new year so far and that you've done well in all your exams and coursework.
Now that the Autumn semester is finally over, this seems as good a time as any to bring you up to speed with what's going on in 2012.

1. 2011
2011 has been a very good year for us. Until December that is.
We unfortunately were very firmly up against it during the end of the year when a number of technical and admin problems arose.
Firstly, we had some problems with the licences which enabled us to broadcast. These were sorted on our end but has taken an absolute age with the licence providers themselves. Only this week has it finally managed to be fully resolved.
We have also had several IT issues over December as our website completely died. We immediately began work on recovering the website to no avail. We then recovered the website address so we could redirect it. Unfortunately this too has been fraught with problems (again not on our end) which only this week has finally been resolved. So we once again have a web presence until our new website is completed.

2. IT in 2012
So to this year.
The website is being developed and we have secured some server space to host it for free with the SU. Which is fantastic.
We ordered a new PC last year to optimise our broadcasting capability, which I am still waiting for any return from IT about.
Our broadcast solution (currently livestream) has been tricky as I have been in fairly constant communication with IT regarding what we can and cannot do. We appear to have hit a brick wall with this unfortunately. We have tried to look at other options with things like the Radio Player software, used by the BBC and Uni of Hertfordshire. They however appear to have no desire to communicate with us so for the moment, we are stuck with livestream and a possibility to move onto YouTube.
Few positives though, we have permission to make a hole in the desk. Sounds silly, but we can now properly position the mixer and make the studio look exactly like a studio and work on the space we have.
We also now have a working phone line. There is a bit of hardware that needs some repair in order to make this work, but it's minor rewiring. So soon, we can take phone calls. EXCITING!!!

3. Shows in 2012
So for 2012, we need shows.
We want a full timetable of productions happening during the Spring Semester. So if you want to be involved or are already involved, get in touch. Whatever it is that you want to do. We've already had people show interest in shows so this is great.
For those existing DJ's that wish to continue, please check your timetables and let me know when you can do your show. They are all out now and we need to start compiling the schedule.
You can download the show proposal form here.

4. BE INVOLVED!!!
Our biggest problem with the radio station is letting people know we are there to listen to.
This can only be solved in one way. By you telling people and being involved.
We can sit here until 8pm every night (literally) and put shows on for people. But unless you guys get involved, spread the word, listen to the station and make an effort, we aren't going to get anywhere.
When I got elected for this position, I made one thing clear and I have continued with this mantra. I will not chase you. If you want to be involved, you need to be active and make an effort. Whether that's being here, supporting over DJ's, offering help, suggestions or anything. You need to be proactive.
I don't have the time to chase you to make sure you are doing things. So get involved in any way you can and I will do my best to help you.

5. London MetSU Elections 2012
The elections for London MetSU will be held in March and Verve Radio will be (again quite literally) in the middle of all of it.
We will be providing coverage of the elections and a forum for the nominees to give their views and manifestos across, host live debates and interviews.
Much like the BBC Democracy Live website, we will be running a completely impartial and informative service that is easily accessible for ALL London Met students at any campus.
This is an exciting time and we need people to help for interviews so if you are a journalist and want to get involved please get in touch. There will be more information about what is happening closer to the time.
