Have you had your Oyster card confiscated recently? Read on...A number of students have recently had their Transport For London (TfL) student Oyster card confiscated and have been told that they are no longer entitled to the student discount.
If this happens: # Do not hand over your card without making a note of the serial number on the back (top right hand corner).
It appears that in many cases this is because students have been issued with more than one student Oyster card. Where students have been issued with more than one card, all but the most recent card have been cancelled by TfL and may be confiscated by station staff with immediate effect.
Any student who has received more than one student oystercard for the current academic year should call the dedicated student helpline number 0870 443 1045. The helpline staff will be able to confirm the registration number of the 'active' Student Oystercard and you should use this card from now on.
TfL have also assured the Students' Union that any student who had credit on their cancelled card should be able to reclaim this by writing to:
Oyster & Ticketing Refunds
55 Broadway
London
SW1H 0BD
You should include your full name, address and application reference or oystercard number (on the back of the card) if you know it. A cheque for the relevant amount will then be sent to you. If you paid using a credit or debit card the relevant amount will simply be refunded to the same card.
If you believe that your student oystercard has been cancelled for any other reson than that given above, you should call the helpline number 0870 443 1045 or contact the Students' Union in order for us to investigate that matter.
