The Sikh Society
The Sikh Society was first formed in 1991, by two
Sikhs who felt they needed a voice. Amongst the hussle
and bussle of the University of North London Sikh
students felt they needed to be active and to promote
unity amongst themselves and others who wanted to take
part in a positive and friendly community spirit.
Over the years, The Sikh society has conducted
activities such as Soup runs, paintballing, sponsored
walks, religious programmes at Gurdwaras up and down
the country, religious talks in the university etc.
The London Met Sikh society is in union with the
British Organisation of Sikh Students (B.O.S.S.),
Shere-Panjab and the Sikh Human Rights Group as well
as many other Sikh orientated groups. We have ongoing
continuous support from these groups and they help to
organise and raise awareness about different projects
and fundraising activities throughout the year.
The London Met Sikh Society also promotes activities
and events such as football tournaments (Shere-Panjab)
and the annual Sikh Camp which is held during the
summer vacations in an army camp.
London Met Sikh Society also supports the Kundalini
Yoga mediataion centre in Bricknell Road, Archway. The
Kriya Centre is home to many resources on
sprirtuality, meditation, Sikh cds, books, magazines
etc.
Aside from lectures, exhibitions and video lectures,
the Sikh society organises cinema trips with discount
group tickets, bowling trips, ice skating etc.
All of the above provides an opportunity to unite
students who have questions with regards to the Sikh
religion and the discipline that it teaches.
