Aviation Society (AVSoc)
The Aviation society was founded in 2014 with the aim to further enhance the student’s experiences, participation and self-development as well as to promote and engage students with the Aviation industry.
The society's motto is 'Engage, Educate and Innovate’.
AvSoc aims to:
• Engage students with the aviation industry by inviting guest speakers, hosting trips and organising social activities.
• Educate and encourage positive thinking and collaboration.
• Innovate- bringing in new ideas, encouraging creative thinking and recognising talent.
We regularly host fun and educational trips. In the past our trips have included visiting London Heathrow Airport, British Airways' HQ in Waterside and Airbus manufacturing facility in Toulouse, south of France. We also visit career fairs and other industry conferences.
We do like to make our life at university as enjoyable as possible and we know having a social life is just as important as having a degree. We play football on a weekly basis and organise regular social events. In previous years we have gone ice-skating, bowling and sometimes we choose to have a lazy day and just opt to watch a film at the cinema instead!
AvSoc has introduced a Guest Lecture Series (check our Eventbrite page for the latest guest lectures). We invite renowned speakers from the industry and in the past these have included easyJet's commercial Manager and Emirates' Vice-President. We also invite our Alumni back in to give us hints and tips about making the most of our student life and to advise us on our future career aspirations.
