London Met’s Aldgate Campus is in the thick of East London. Known for its specialised studios and workshop, our creative hub is on Goulston Street - between Aldgate and Aldgate East Station. Iconic Spots

• The Atrium Café: The bright, buzzing, social heart of the Aldgate campus. It’s the perfect, creative space to grab an artisanal coffee, refuel between intense studio projects, or gather with friends.

• The Art & Design Studios: Spread across the campus buildings, these incredible spaces house everything from traditional print and textile facilities to high-tech digital manufacturing workshops. It's where the creative magic happens.

• The Roof Terrace: A hidden gem of a spot on campus where you can step outside, catch a breather, and soak in some of the most impressive views of the iconic London city skyline.

Local Eats & Treats (On a Student Budget)

East London is famous for food, and being based at Aldgate means you are surrounded by legendary budget eats:

• Beigel Bake Brick Lane: A short walk from campus and an absolute London rite of passage. Open 24/7, you can grab a massive, traditional salt beef bagel with mustard and gherkins (or a classic chopped herring bagel) for just a few quid.

• The Brick Lane Curry Houses: Right on your doorstep. Brick Lane is world-famous for its Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants. Pro-tip: many of them are BYOB (bring your own bottle) and offer incredible, highly competitive student meal deals if you haggle slightly at the door.

• Spitalfields Market: Only a 10-minute stroll away. While some stalls can be pricey, it is packed with diverse street food options, and you can easily secure a massive, satisfying lunch box from spots like Sud Italia pizza or the various noodle stalls for under a tenner.

The Best Pubs 

Need a post-studio pint or a place to unwind? Give these a try:

• The Duke of Somerset: Tucked just behind the campus on Little Somerset Street. It is a massive student hotspot, highly popular for its spacious outdoor beer garden, friendly atmosphere, and student-friendly prices on food and drinks.

• Apples and Pears: Located just down the road. This is a brilliant, lively cocktail bar that serves up incredible wood-fired pizzas, spins an eclectic mix of soul, hip-hop, and party classics, and boasts a great little hidden courtyard.

• The Pride of Spitalfields: If you want a proper, traditional, no-frills East End pub, this is it. Located just off Brick Lane, it’s cosy, has cheap pints, features a resident pub cat, and is a wonderful escape from the sleek city bars.

Green Spaces 

When you need to rest your eyes after staring at a canvas or screen all day:

• Altab Ali Park: Located right across the road on Whitechapel High Street. It’s a small but historic park that's perfect for a quick, green breather or sitting on a bench to eat your lunch in the sun.

• Trinity Square Gardens: A short walk south towards Tower Hill. This beautifully maintained green square offers a peaceful sanctuary with stunning, up-close views of the Tower of London and the historic Roman Wall.
