93% Club

Who we are: The 93% Club at London Met is the on‑campus chapter of the national 93% Club, the UK’s largest network of state‑educated students and professionals. Across the country, the movement exists to change what it means to be state educated in Britain by building the “least exclusive members’ club”.

At London Met, around 96% of students come from state schools, so social mobility is not just a buzzword for us. It is the everyday reality of our community. Our society turns that into opportunity: a supportive peer network, practical skills, and direct access to employers and mentors who want to level the playing field.

Mission and values: Our mission: to give state‑educated people the same access to powerful connections, knowledge, and opportunities that have historically been reserved for the privately educated. We are serious about social mobility, inclusive by design, and proud to be #StateSchoolProud.

We organise our work around three pillars: Connect, Upskill, Empower.

• Connect: bringing state‑educated students together across courses and years so no one has to navigate university or work alone.
• Upskill: running workshops and events that build confidence and open doors in competitive sectors, from CVs and assessment centres to networking and negotiation.
• Empower: creating a culture where members feel the world is open to them, and where they can “pay it forward” as they progress.

What we offer: Members can expect:

• A real peer community: regular socials, study sessions, and a welcoming space to share experiences and advice.
• Careers and skills: skills workshops, alumni talks, and networking sessions tailored to state‑educated students.
• Mentorship and pathways: links to the wider 93% Professionals network for mentoring, insights, and role models across industries.
• A voice on things that matter: speaking up about issues like unfair internship practices, hidden costs of uni life, and other barriers that make it harder for some students to get ahead.

Who can join: Membership is open to all London Met students who support our social mobility mission, with a particular focus on supporting those from state‑educated backgrounds. You do not need to have attended a specific type of school to be an ally. If you believe opportunity should not depend on background, you are welcome.

How to get involved:

• Join the society via your Students’ Union portal and our sign‑up links.
  
• Come to events: look out for freshers’ fair stalls, workshops, and socials throughout the year.
• Volunteer: help run events, lead projects, or represent the club as a committee member.
