Sports at London Met

There are some important updates we would like to share about the future of sport starting from the next academic year 2022/2023 onwards.

London Met Students’ Union has been proudly running London Met sports for several years, and during that time it has been the home of sports clubs and competitive sport opportunities for students.

As we all know,  in these recent times of change, with the global pandemic and inflation, running sport activity has proven to be quite a challenging task. With the latest rapid rise of costs, the Students’ Union has had to make difficult decisions on how to distribute our budget and resources in order to be a sustainable organisation for our members.

With a very limited budget, it has been decided and agreed by the LMSU Trustee Board that the Students’ Union will no longer be running Sport activities and opportunities for London Met. That includes the funding of coaches, officials, sports clubs, affiliations, travel, insurance, equipment, and competitive sport via BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport).

Instead, it will be facilitated by the Sport and Fitness department of the University. During the summer, we’ve conducted a handover process for the continuity of sport activities and opportunities, and ensuring that it remains an offer for students at London Met.  This will enable the Students’ Union to give additional funding and focus to our many societies, as well as give sports clubs dedicated support from the University’s Sport and Fitness team.

For more information and for any queries you may have about their plans for the development and delivery of sport opportunities, we recommend that you keep an eye on for updates via their website linked above, and/or contact them via e-mail, fitness@londonmet.ac.uk.

We will also be working closely with the Sport and Fitness department to ensure that there is support in place to ensure that the development of the overall sport offer is continuously improving for our members.

Thank you for being a part of our journey of Sport at London Met Students’ Union, if you have any questions please contact Shu'aib Ali at shuaib.ali@londonmet.ac.uk.
