London Met is one of the most diverse universities in the UK, home to thousands of students from around the world. We, your LMSU Executive Committee, are devastated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.  It is heartbreaking to hear that innocent civilian people are losing their lives and many more are leaving their home country behind for safety. Numerous European countries have shown tremendous support for the victims of this war.

We stand in solidarity with all innocent Ukrainian and Russian people. We cannot stress enough what a difficult situation this is for both our Ukrainian and Russian students and members of staff here at our London Metropolitan University community and we stand firmly with you.

We condemn the action and the invasion as whole in the strongest possible terms and urge Russia to withdraw from Ukraine, and choose diplomacy over warfare. We welcome the start of the peace negotiation today and call for all countries to assist in mediating this conflict.

Call for Solidarity

Currently, aid packages are being delivered to the families that are in desperate need of them. This crisis is escalating and the number of refugees is predicted to reach their peak soon.

The present situation is harsh, and it is even harsher trying to adapt to it. Therefore, people are leaving their home country but are still not safer once they cross that border. They have nowhere to go, no food and in some cases not even a blanket to protect themselves from the freezing temperatures. A simple act such as a hot drink, a sandwich or a warm blanket would mean a lot to civilians affected. That one can be YOU!

We urge you to get involved in showing your support to those who need it. This is a serious call for solidarity, and now more than ever we need to take action and help those in need.
