'Still I rise'

Hello fellow LMU students, my name is Mim Hossain and I am a second year BSc (Hons) Criminology and Policing student.

I am standing for Women Liberation Officer.

Not only I am a woman, but I am also Muslim and a Person Of Colour. Just your friendly neighborhood Minority within Minority Human!

Before moving to my current course I was a Social Work student. Albeit I only did one year, it helped me understand concepts that we don’t discuss enough, such as the power of consent and confidentiality.

What voting for me would mean to you?

  • Zero tolerance against gender inequality.
  • Battle against gender stereotypes with me!
  • Build a safer community for anyone who identifies as a woman.
  • Actively defeat sexism and patriarchy.

What experiences do I possess?

  • Mentoring: I mentored youth with ties to the social services when I was a Social Work student;
  • Leadership: I was a Prefect in Sixth Form and I am currently my course’s Student Representative;
  • Trilingual: I speak Bengali, English and Italian, hence if you are an international student with an accent who faces challenges and difficulties due to the language barrier, you will never feel alone when you’re with me.

As a Woman Liberation Officer, my plans will be to walk on and expand the grounds that have been paved before me by previous Liberation Officers.

Some promises I would like to keep are:

  1. Easily accessible sanitary pads within campus (Scotland di it, New Zealand did it, we can do it too).
  2. Self-defense classes for women and or boxing classes that have women-only sessions.
  3. Create a safe space for victims of any sort of abuse and raise awareness of available help services within and outside of campus.
  4. Sexual health workshops (I am currently attending consent workshops led by Harleena Jagde).

I might be standing for Woman Liberation Officer, but I would like to make it clear, that anyone is welcome to share their worries or use me as a means to reach another Officer.

My doors will always be open for those who are in need.

Vote for me if you stand for what I stand: https://www.londonmetsu.org.uk/elections/2021/
