NANCY BARNEY

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Who Am I?

Hello, my name is Nancy Barney and I would like to be considered for the role of NUS Conference Delegate in London Met. I am a part-time student studying Health and Social Care. In my previous role as a student ambassador at the University of Hertfordshire, my role included managing and supporting students and being the bridge between the university administration and the students whilst promoting Equality and Diversity. I believe I have transferable skills and experience needed to make this role successful.

Why Me?

I am a firm believer in fighting for what is right and standing up against what is unethically wrong. I hope to be the voice for all students in the university if given the opportunity to attend the NUS Conference. I want all student to feel empowered, encouraging them to be the best version of themselves and getting the most out of their educations. If I were to be elected, my main objectives would be to:

  1. Represent & Support - the university and its students irrespective of their background, race, beliefs, gender, etc. Also, encouraging and supporting care leavers and estranged students because only 4% of care experienced young people access further or higher education. I want NUS to support the development of the services for care leavers in every University and the development of student groups for care leavers.

  1. Safety - London faces several issues in regards to safety especially in the evenings. With crime on the study rise, poor/dim street lighting, unsafe areas. We must all do what is necessary to remain safe at all times.

  1. Mental Health - Mental Health is mostly the most unspoken word in our generation but as we all know, it can affect every area of our lives if ignored especially our studies and life for all students on campus. Sometimes our voices can be forgotten and unheard so therefore the key focus will be seen to it that our voices be heard!

  1. Environment - climate change is on the increase more than ever, and as students, we should be fighting to protect our planet, which is why we want to make sure that our national union of students is doing everything to prioritise sustainability and the environment!
