Students' Union Officers and staff enjoyed their annual community volunteering day in late July at Islington Boat Club. Based at City Road Basin near Angel, the Boat Club aims to provide safe, water-based activities such as kayaking and narrow-boat rides for the local community, particularly young people and those with special needs.

Our students helped with gardening, cleaning, general maintenance and tidying up the yard and safety gear. At lunchtime our efforts were rewarded with a trip on a narrow boat along the canal up to King's Cross, passing through the 900-metre famous Islington tunnel.

The volunteering day was arranged via the University's Careers & Employability Service. Students' Union President, Diini Muse, told Verve Media 'We all really enjoyed the day and were very happy to support the Islington Boat Club in their great work with the local community here in Islington.'
