Your Voice Matters

Hello! My name is Jasmine Damaris (she/they) and I am a third-year BA Creative Writing and English Literature student, a Student Rep, and Success Coach.

I believe I am right for this position because I am a friendly and laid-back person but I am also hardworking and goal-oriented. As a mature student with experience in organising events, I enjoy making connections and bringing people together as a collective. I have been involved with LGBTQIA+ and feminist events before, usually while raising money for charities, as I have a passion for amplifying those marginalised voices that need to be heard - that’s why my slogan is ‘Your Voice Matters’! I believe that everyone has valid opinions and perspectives and I want to be the person to represent those, bringing them into our community at London Met, building our community of students into something bigger and brighter than it’s ever been before.

If elected, I would be dedicated to building connections with students across both campuses by organising regular forums - giving students a platform to get their voices heard and work towards our overall goal of improving student experience. By voting for me, you are also voting for:

SOCIETIES

  • I will lobby for the organisation of a variety of societies and events, including more specific networking events for underrepresented students, i.e., BAME students, LGBTQIA+ students, disabled students, mature students, students with dependents, and international students.

  • Also, I will set up more creative events, i.e., concerts, karaoke nights, open mic nights, book clubs, and poetry workshops, even running these throughout Summer.

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

As someone who suffers from anxiety and depression, I know how isolating mental health conditions can be. If elected, I will work towards:

  • Making London Met’s counseling service more visible and accessible for students.

  • Lobbying for more events focused on wellbeing and health.

  • Lobbying for designated safe spaces on both campuses where students can go during opening hours to relax if they are feeling overwhelmed, stressed or panicky.

STUDENT UNION

  • I pledge to increase the SU’s visibility and accessibility for both campuses by increasing promotion.

  • I will work towards creating more tailored SU events based on feedback from surveys and forums.

  • I will lobby for better opportunities for students to meet students from other courses (and even universities) to build those all-important connections.

  • I will see to it that there are free masks available at the SU.

SUMMARY

  • MORE EVENTS

  • MORE SUPPORT

  • SAFE SPACES

  • FREE MASKS
