AARON PATEL

For you, For LMU.

After working at the Students’ Union since enrolling at the university in 2017, I am now prepared to represent the students of London Met and make a difference during your years of study. Having been a student, working for students, my perspective and understanding is strong but also parallel enough to understand what they want.

Without students, there is no university. All the hours of hardwork and commitment cannot go unnoticed and I want to provide all students with the platform to contribute and make a difference during their time here, ensuring they remain my number one priority.

Mental Health

A pivotal factor in the lives of every single student, mental health is something which should be addressed with the utmost importance. Studying itself can present challenges for students during their tenure at university, but factors such as moving away from home and personal lives also have implications.

I will lobby to ensure that the university is providing increasing support for mental health; The care of the students is a high priority and it is vital you are provided with enough support.

Considering how most students' time is consumed by studying, I want to provide more frequent cross-campus events and activities which allow students to relax and take a break from the hard grind of academic work at a constant rate.

Student engagement

Across universities, engagement is a difficult thing. As sabbatical officer, I propose to increase opportunities for you, as students, to interact with the SU and your peers. Engaging with fellow students and even potential employers can help us all. If I am elected, I will do my utmost best to provide activities and events, which allow students to further their engagement with university beyond their lessons or simply being in the library.

Such activities will not only relate to your degree but will be leisure, as London Met’s student engagement is a goldmine waiting to be hit.

As well as Holloway having opportunities, The CASS (Aldgate) is brimming with quality and potential, which absolutely needs to be tapped into. The students at CASS already produce amazing work, so imagine what more opportunities could do for them.

Sustainability

Being in the heart of London does not exactly scream sustainability, but I believe together we can contribute towards making a healthy and positive contribution - one small step at a time.

The sustainability team here at the university has done an amazing job and I want to ensure that we as a university and as students continue to assist them. This is another area which I believe can be a huge stride forward in my mission to expand student engagement.

I will lobby to ensure that we continue to reduce the use of plastic on campus, host frequent and bigger events, and also give the students a platform to share their ideas to create a more sustainable university.

Together, we can make a change. A change for the better. For you, For LMU.
