WE ARE THE CHANGE!

We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek!

Hi, I am Cynthia Edo; a 3rd year Youth studies student. Throughout my time within the university, I have been student ambassador, success coach, ACS president as well as the current SU BAME Officer. These roles have given me transferable skills that I feel equips me to a high degree to take on the role of SSSP officer role.

Having been involved within different roles within the university as well as the SU, I have gained a great insight and experience of both dynamics which I feel places me in a great position of understanding the benefit and the challenges of being a student within London Met.

The main issues I look to focus on if elected are;

Tackle the sigma of mental health especially within the BAME student community. Hosting more mental health events that brings students and professionals together to challenge the ideology of the correlation of mental health and weakness. I also look to fight for better counselling services within the university and decrease the waiting time before being seen by a counsellor for students.

As your student voice representative, I would strive to make it as simple as possible to be heard by, represented by, and involved with the Student’s Union here at London Met. I feel having more approachable Sabbatical Officers would promote a sense of community as well as having permanent full time BAME representation within the SU. I look to challenge the lack of BAME staff representatives within the SU by deconstructing the recruitment process and ensuring diversity is a focus within recruiting and hiring stage.

I believe having permanent  BAME staff within the SU will allow BAME student to feel more connected and relatable to the SU, as BAME students form the highest percentage within the university.

I feel it is important to make the Student’s Union as present and involved as possible within the university and the student body, by increasing promotion of the great things already happening and increase the SU’s presence in places outside their building.

Being elected will give me the opportunity to fight for the student as well as challenge the things that are not working. Vote for me and lets London Met a university we are proud of.
