MARYAM SABERI

Hi, my name is Maryam Saberi and I have been a postgraduate research student at London Metropolitan University since 2018. I am an international student from Iran who has been studying at LMU since 2010 when I started as an undergraduate student. After completing my undergraduate studies, I went on to study a master in pharmaceutical science that naturally lead to my current position as PhD research student in biochemistry, where I am investigating new drug delivery systems.

I successfully ran for and became the International Officer in 2012. One of my proudest achievements in this position was successfully campaigning for extra funding for the LMU Woman’s’ Football team.

During my masters, I was elected student representative of my course, which gave me the chance to attend meetings with module leaders. This enabled me to convey students’ messages and concerns to them and allow their voices to be heard.

During my time at LMU, I gained experience in being a committee member of two great and diverse societies; the Persian society and postgraduate research society. I believe that building great committees creates networks and gives students a platform to be seen by their peers.

Since 2016, I have been a part of the student ambassador team and have attended several HE fairs in different cities around the UK. It has been an honour for me to be the face of London met when I am one of the exhibitors at these fairs.

I am keen to start working with the full time Human Sciences Officer and help them to bridge the gap between students and the university to bring about exciting changes.

In particular, I am passionate about creating a shared community that bridges the gaps between undergraduate and postgraduate students. In addition, I would like to help create a space where Postgraduate and Research students are able to get help regarding their courses and general university problems.
