Statement of solidarity

This February at London Metropolitan Students’ Union, we have been celebrating LGBTQIA+ History Month. With a large range of events, such as film screenings, sexual health clinics, and mental health workshops, we have been working to create an inclusive environment, which celebrates our students, whatever their race, sexuality or gender.

Throughout the month, we have experienced a number of issues that have challenged these efforts, and attempted to undermine our mission value of providing a life-changing experience to all of our students. These behaviours have no place within our Students’ Union.

London Metropolitan University Students’ Union values liberation and equality, and we want all of our students to feel confident and encouraged in who they are. Therefore, we have a zero-tolerance policy for any kind of discrimination. Racism, homophobia and transphobia have no place within our organisation or within wider society, and we will make every effort to ensure that London Metropolitan Students’ Union is a safe space for all of our students.

If you or someone you know has experienced any kind of prejudice, harassment or discrimination, we encourage you to get in touch with us at studentsunion@londonmet.ac.uk, and we will do our best to support you in seeking help.

In solidarity with all students,

Diini, Jessica, Nakole, Stephanie and Selina
