Be Together Be Yourself

WHO AM I:

Hi, my name is Chieloka Arinze Diru, currently I am a third-year student studying BSc Biochemistry, I am standing in for the role of Vice President for Activities and Opportunities. In my time here at London Metropolitan University I have had the wonderful privilege of meeting lots of extraordinary students who are driven to graduate with a degree that reflects their extremely hard work during their time at this great university.  I want to ensure that the university experience is fair and inclusive for all students regardless of their previous background. I am intensely passionate about ensuring that university is inclusive for all students so that they have the confidence participating in and activities to their interest.

MY BELIEFS / VIEWS:

We all know that being in uni or starting uni can be a daunting experience with all the unnecessary social pressures that we’re told by other people with regards to academics or socialising. My view is that we should all be ourselves, but also maintaining that sense of togetherness so that we are around people that we can relate to so that we enhance the uni experience. From recent research, I have identified that current students feel like there is low engagement in activities, my view is that students who often engage in activities are more employable as they are more rounded as a result of developing various skills such as organisation, communication and adaptability. I believe that students who engage in activities create further opportunities to find new friends which can help feel more at home at uni and improves their mental health and increased motivation to excel academically as well!!!!!!!!

WHY VOTE FOR ME:

I am an intensely focused – driven person who will go to all lengths to achieve the aims I or others set for myself, I am also driven to getting things done with the best of my ability. I consider myself self to be an extremely kind and fair person when it comes to dealing with people and will always listen to their needs and concerns.

PREVIOUS ROLES:

  • Student Representative in 2020, listening to all the concerns of students and putting them forward to the student council

  • Ambassador for Haringey Sixth Form College (My Sixth Form) 2016

IF I DO HAVE THE HONOUR OF BEING YOUR VP FOR ACTIVITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES I AIM TO:

  • Providing opportunities for likeminded students who does not currently know anyone to form their communities so that they develop key skills such as communication

  • A more diverse range of societies to increase student engagement and develop further skills such as developing potential network with new friends

  • Any newly formed student – based activities will be on the front page of the student website, so that it is easily accessible for all

  • Ensuring that a diverse range of opportunities are created for students to ensure it is inclusive for all students to increase their employability
