Introduction 

Hi, I am Denise Morrison, wife, mother of 10 children and student union officer for the School of Social Sciences and Professions (SSSP). I recently completed my MSc in Health, Social Care, and Management and Policy. I am very keen on continuing to help and support all student at Londonmet. 

As a full-time officer, an undergraduate, postgraduate student, secretary of Mums @ Uni society, and more recent, Co-Chair of the Strategy and Policy group of my housing association representing residents, has enable me first-hand knowledge of their challenges . I am better able to understand and relate to the concerns of both my local community and the university.

  • I am motivated and committed to the students at Londonmet and as your President, I will do even more. 

  • Very dependable, goal-oriented, helpful, and work well with students, Senior Leadership team and the university on a whole. 

  • Good listener, act upon concerns, proactive and able to provide solutions or signpost students in a quick and timely manner. 

  •  Co-creating and designing modules that were student friendly and easy to relate to their life experiences. 

  • Support students in my school and the wider community to settle into their studies and to have a good start to their education journey. 

 

My offer to you 

  • Will be working with the University to provide help and support for students with childcare needs. 

  • Working with the university to provide better paid internships , work experiences and influencing more partnerships and collaboration with top organisations. 

  • Promoting Academic integrity-  championing changes to the Plagiarism rules and regulation (specifically, notifying students) and  the mitigation process.  

  •  Motivating and influencing mature students back into university to complete their studies. 

  • Continue to support?students in fairness, equality, and justice,  so students can further make positive impacts in their own lives, as well as their community. 

 

Projects/events worked on 

  • Panel Member - of students, lecturers, and senior members of London Metropolitan University, reviewing changes to the graduate attainment report 2019/20.  

  •  Collaborations with the University- in external presentations, that will provide more financial support  to enhance the students' experience at Londonmet. 

  • Employability and Career Service- Providing help and support for students, promoting, and presenting opportunities to students in employment and career choices.  

  • Ensuring students are engage with their course- aware of the opportunities and support available  through class presentations and the LinkUp sessions.  

  • University Interview Panels- Being active and very vocal on employment of lecturer staff and students.  

  • Disability Awareness Month- Promoting disability awareness within the university, different forms of disability, and  dismantling  the negative ‘stigma’ associated with disability.  

  • Black History Month- Celebrating “Black joy,” It was an enormous success and received great reviews, from students and staff. 

  • Campaign: “Violence Against Women”- In a supportive and responsive procedures to tackle all forms of sexual violence and misconduct in the teaching and learning environment at Londonmet. 

  • Strategy & Policy Group Resident Representative- Enabling residents an improve customer experience with Peabody
